Supporting Student Success
The Challenge Scholars Dream Fund supports projects that
benefit students and graduates of Union High School in the classes of
2020-2028. If you are a Challenge Scholar, a parent, a teacher or a community

DREAM FUND GRANTS AWARDED
2024-2025 school year
- The Diatribe - $5,800
Funds support From The Ground Up, a pilot program that engages alumni of the Writing to Right Wrongs program to deepen their understanding of redlining, how place-making initiatives uplift disinvested areas, instilling neighborhood pride and providing students with media production training and career building opportunities through a community storytelling series, shared learning and narrative justice. - Fair Housing Center of West Michigan - $6,500
In partnerships with the Diatribe, funds support a unit that combines civil rights/fair housing content and spoken word to empower at least 20 Union High School students with a better understanding of their rights, thee importance of place, and how to use their creative voice in positive ways to express themselves and impact their community. - New City Kids - $8,000
Funds supported the enhancement of the Teen Life Internship Program in Grand Rapids, a paid leadership and college readiness initiative. In the program, fosters academic success and postsecondary readiness through the development of a clear college or career plan, and securing financial aid for higher education. - Union High School - $7,000
Student submitted request. Funds were used for a cultural celebration at Union High School. The event will provide an inclusive platform for students, families and faculty to share their unique cultural heritages through food, music, art and educational exhibits. - West Grand Neighborhood Organization - $10,000
Funds support a partnership between Westside Way and Union High School, that will positively influence school culture, student and staff morale and neighborhood engagement.
